This is going to sound snobby but if your Tumblr rocks a cookie-cutter theme that doesn’t even have the colors of the default setup changed, I’m not going to pay attention. That goes for a majority of experienced users. You’ve gotta catch our eyes before we start perusing for interesting content.
In a world where content is king, you need to do something to prove that your content stands out and that starts by creating or doing something with your theme to prove that you care enough to put effort not only into your content, but how your readers experience that content.
